Position: -              Business Manager/Sales Controller

Reports to: -                     General Sales Manager

Summary of Purpose

To control the centre sales activities to maximise all new and used sales enquiries to deliver profitability, complete customer satisfaction and retention and achieve key performance drivers.

1. Main Purpose of Job

To manage and maximise all new and used vehicle sales enquiries complying with policies, processes and procedures to deliver volume and profitability in-line with budgets, targets and market opportunities.

To assist the General Sales Manager in maintaining policies and procedures.

To organise and control the activities of the Sales Executives and administrative support to achieve plans and budgets, ensuring optimum use of all material, financial and personnel resources.

To encourage and ensure all staff deliver Complete Customer Satisfaction to deliver the maximum customer retention and centre margin.

2. Relationships

Responsible to:- Sales Manager

Responsible for:- Sales Executives

Relationships:- Directors, Centre Principal, Financial Controller, Administration Manager, Sales Administrator, Business Centre Manager, Service Manager, Parts Manager, TGB team, Suppliers, other representatives and John Roe Group personnel.

 3. Detailed Responsibilities

To ensure that the sales department achieves profit targets, maintain margins and control expenses as detailed in budgets and business plans.

To maximise the new and used car volume and profitability opportunity and actively set out to achieve and exceed dealership objectives for market penetration, used to new ratios and Toyota Annual Sales Objectives, in line with market opportunity.

To oversee the sale of finance and insurance products, added value items, extras and accessories.

To constantly monitor the sales environment to ensure the highest standards of housekeeping and visual impact.

To ensure that overheads, costs and expenses are minimised by carefully controlling and utilising all resources effectively.

To deputise for the Sales Manager as required ensuring continued levels of operational performance.

To monitor all forms of marketing to ensure that it provides effectiveness.

To comply with all John Roe and TGB operating standards and policies to achieve the maximum departmental performance.

To comply with all current regulation and legislation applicable to the centres business activities ensuring that we meet any specific operational requirements and standards, such as FCA compliance.

To ensure that all reporting and administrative functions, returns, record keeping and clerical operations are carried out at the appropriate time and kept up to date.

To ensure that all sales staff follow the company policies, processes and procedures to drive centre performance.

To maximise every sales opportunity through the effective management and control of the lead management system.

Encourage and ensure all staff deliver Complete Customer Satisfaction to deliver the maximum customer retention and centre margin.

Other Duties

Any other duties as and when required by the General Sales Manager that are reasonably within the capabilities of the person and are aimed at achieving the company’s objectives and goals.

Personal Specification



Good standard of education with a qualification in Maths and English

Previous experience of and the ability to successfully control a team

Previous experience of working in a high target driven sales environment within the motor trade

Excellent communication and organisational skills

Excellent customer service/people skills

Polite, calm and approachable persona

Must be a team player with a flexible ‘can do’ approach

Must hold a full drivers licence



NVQ Lv3 or higher in customer service

Hold a recognised motor industry qualification or equivalent

CMI management or leadership qualification or equivalent

Salary Negotiable
